SVAPOHN Members Attend Nurse Legislative Rally at the State Capitol on May 10th 2011

[Harrisburg] The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA) unveiled its "Long White Line Campaign" in a live, State Capitol roll out event this week. 

The morning press conference in the rotunda was attended by leading members of the state House and Senate who honored the group for being the state's

"leading voice for professional nurses."   The centerpiece of the campaign is a web-released video short titled, "The Long White Line," which chronicles the

storied history of nursing in what PSNA's president Patrick Kenny called a "pocket sized movie" format.   The video can be viewed at www.PANurses.org.

According to the organizations CEO, Betsy Snook, the campaign targets, "a rising generation of professional nurses."  Adding, "It's our hope that they see

their service as something larger than themselves.  They're part of a truly remarkable story, and protectors of a great legacy."

The event was broadcast statewide on the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN).

This year's recipient is Kathy Emanski, RN, COHN/CM from Susquehanna Valley Chapter.This award recognizes her outstanding service to occupational health through exceptional performance of professional responsibilities.
Betty Mouldar Award for Clinical Practice
 
This year's recipient is Joyce Casey-Petronchak, RN, COHN-S/CM from Susquehanna Valley Chapter.  This award demonstrates her excellence and innovation in the practice of occupational health nursing.
PAAOHN Achievement Award

Susquehanna Valley Association of Occupational Health Nurses Honors David Martin , BS, M.Ed

On behalf of SVAPOHN, President Daurice Holly, RN, COHN, CCM,  recently recognized David Martin of Tunkhannock, in honor of his recent retirement.
David Martin is a former OSHA Compliance Assistance Specialist, who also served as an OSHA Assistant Area Director, an OSHA inspector and an OSHA Training Specialist. His career with OSHA covered 30 years, where he investigated accidents and fatalities, and completed 1100 OSHA inspections.  He was a Training Specialist for the Mine Safety and Health Administration for 8 years, and completed four safety assignments in China and Indonesia for the International Labor Organization (ILO). He was instrumental in assisting SVAPOHN in the developing their OSHA Alliance in 2006  and was a  featured speaker at SVAPOHN chapter meetings and annual multi-day conferences.  David will continue his passion for safety as an OSHA Authorized Instructor providing the Northeastern PA region with OSHA related safety training for General Industry and Construction.

OSHA and SVAPOHN Renew Alliance

OSHA and SVAPOHN have renewed their alliance on December 29, 2010. The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Susquehanna Valley Association of Pennsylvania Occupational Health Nurses (SVAPOHN) continue to recognize the value of maintaining a collaborative relationship to foster safer and more healthful American workplaces.
The participants intend to work together to achieve the goals related to raising awareness of OSHA's rulemaking and enforcement initiatives, to achieve training and education goals, and promote outreach and communication. Daurice Holly, SVAPOHN Vice President renewed this alliance on behalf of SVAPOHN, current alliance is effective for a two year period, December 2010- December 2012.
Through the Alliance, the organizations will continue to address hazards of distracted driving, the proposed rule on hazard communication, (the globally harmonized system) and other safety concerns. Alliance History, Originally Signed October 24, 2006,  Renewed October 16, 2008, Renewed December 29, 2010.

    

 PAAOHN 2011 Conference

Congratulations to Susquehanna Valley Chapter, who received the PAAOHN Chapter Membership Award.  This award recognized the chapter that demonstrates the most effective goals, implementation and actions to achieve recruiting new members, retaining current members and promoting active member participation in chapter and national activities.
